Presented by seasoned entertainer Steve Chappell, the finals of the Entertainment Act Of The Year brought months of auditions, nerves and suspense to a dramatic close.
Held in the suitably grand Torrequebrada Casino, the eagerly awaited finale was attended by over 600 ticket holders. A palpable air of excitement heralded the beginning of the competition as the first of twelve finalists took to the stage.

Recognising Talent
Judges Andy Ross, Ian Green, Jackie Travis, Jayne Melville and Mel Williams had the unenviable task of choosing between jive dance, Phantom of the Opera, comedy mime, salsa, madness style band "One Step Beyond", duo and solo singers, flamenco guitar and percussion.  

However, it was Welsh singer, Laura Elen who went home with the coveted Entertainment Act of the Year trophy after a stunning rendition Shirley Bassey's 'I (Who Have Nothing)'. A special prize went to the youngest competitor of the show, 15 year old singer Ami Lloyd for her performance of 'Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend' as sung by Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge.

Community Spirit

Fabulous raffle prizes generously donated by local businesses and restaurants ended the evening, They included a week-long break at the Sunset Beach Club in Benalmadena, a seven-night holiday at the Pez Espada Hotel in Torremolinos, a new scooter and dinners for two.
Despite the glamour, a serious fundraising mission underlined the evening's festivities. With sponsorship collected by the performers, ticket sales and the many donations made by local businesses, the gala event will go a long way towards helping the coast's Cancer Care Hospice.
